Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose
Chemical Structure and Properties
1. **Chemical Structure**: It is obtained by chemically modifying natural cellulose, and its molecular chain contains carboxymethyl groups (-CH₂COONa).
2. **Physical Properties**:
- Appearance: Usually white or slightly yellow flocculent powder, fibrous or granular substances.
- Odor: Odorless.
- Solubility: Easily soluble in water, forming a transparent viscous solution. When swelling in water, it first disperses in the form of irregular chain clusters and then gradually dissolves. The solution has pseudoplasticity, that is, its viscosity decreases with the increase of shear rate, and the viscosity can be restored when the shear stops.
- Density: Approximately 1.60 g/cm³.
- Stability: It is relatively stable to heat and light, but hydrolysis reactions will occur under strong acid or strong alkali conditions, reducing its viscosity and performance.
Product Specifications
1. **Viscosity Grades**: According to different application requirements, there are various specifications such as low viscosity, medium viscosity, and high viscosity available for selection. The viscosity is usually measured by a specific rotational viscometer under specific temperature (such as 25°C) and concentration (such as 1% or 2% aqueous solution) conditions.
2. **Degree of Substitution**: Generally ranging from 0.6 to 1.8. The degree of substitution refers to the number of hydroxyl groups on each cellulose unit that are replaced by carboxymethyl groups, which affects the solubility, viscosity, stability and other properties of the product. A higher degree of substitution usually means better water solubility and stability within a wider pH range.
Product Functions and Applications
1. **Food Industry**:
2. **Daily Chemical Industry**:
3. **Textile Industry**:
4. **Paper Industry**:
5. **Ceramic Industry**:
6. **Petroleum Industry**:
Precautions
**Storage Conditions**: It should be stored in a dry and well-ventilated warehouse, avoiding moisture, heat and direct sunlight. The storage temperature is generally between 5 and 30°C, and the relative humidity should not exceed 80%. The product should be sealed to prevent moisture absorption, caking or contamination.
